The 2023 season started this weekend with Round One of the BMKR winter championship at Bayford Meadows.
It was great to be back on track after the Christmas and new year break. This weekend was slightly different for us as we have teamed up with Roalf Racing for paddock support.
Saturday testing went well. We experimented with different set-ups and tried to prepare for as much as possible for Sundays championship race. It was a bit unfortunate that in the evening while we prepping the kart for Sunday we noticed a cracked exhaust. Roalf we very kind to lend us one for the race. I’m pleased to report that it has since been repaired and is like new thanks to Matt Roach Racing.
Sundays Junior Rotax grid was the biggest and most competitive out of all the different categories, which was the case throughout the 2022 season. This weekends grid size was 24 drivers.
We qualified 15th which wasn’t the best of starts but still all to play for as we head into round 1. We made a clean start and kept out of trouble to make up a place. Throughout the race we gained another two places to finish the race in 12th.
For the pre-final we started 12th, lost a position at the start and ended up finishing 13th, so we head into the grand final starting 13th.
The grand final finally got started after a couple of false starts. We made a good start and instantly made up a couple of places. Had some good battles and made it up to 9th. One the last few laps I was pushed wide and lost a position. Once the race had finished the race officials penalised the drivers at fault and I was classified in 8th place out of 24 drivers.
Not a bad start to the winter championship and looking forward to pushing hard and really mastering this great circuit.
On the Monday after the race we got notification from Demon Tweeks Motorsport that we had won the January competition for a photo of us at Bayford with their sponsorship logos clearly on view. That was a nice £150 credit to our account.
