This weekend was the forth round of the IKR Rotax Junior Championship at Lydd Kart Circuit. The weather is hot and the circuit is looking good.
Saturday practice day went well, we achieved what we wanted to in testing and the day went error free. This was helped by the fact that only the week before the kart had had a full re-build from the ground up. We were hopeful of converting that into a good race result on Sunday.
Sundays weather was just as nice and there was little wind so it was hot and track conditions were good.
Practice went well, as did qualifying. I started on the second row in 3rd.
I made a good start to hold my position in heat 1 and after a couple of laps made it up to second. Unfortunately although I was catching the leader there wasn’t time for me to be able to put pressure on him for the win and finished in 2nd place.
I started heat 2 on the front row in second and had a good race putting pressure on the leader. He had new tyres for this race so was very difficult for me to challenge for the lead as I was on older slicks that had already done a race weekend. I finished 2nd so puts me in a good position for the Final.
On the grand final I started 2nd, had a good start, again keep out of trouble and only had 4 laps of usable tyre wear to try to take the lead, unfortunately I couldn’t get past as my tyres were no match for the kart in-front so had to settle for another 2nd place finish.
We are happy with todays results and this is the closest we have ever got in owner kart racing to be so close in lap times with the leaders.
