It’s back to back race weekends as we arrive at Bayford Meadows for round 2 of the Junior Rotax winter championship.
Saturdays practice went well, we were fast, the kart felt good and lap times showed that. The weather was cold and dry to start with and as the day progressed it turned to rain so the last three sessions of the day were wet. Unfortunately our day took a turn for the worse in the last session and the kart came home with a fair amount of damage. Not ideal but after a couple of hours the kart was ready for race day.
We qualified 8th which was good considering the evening before. Unfortunately that means we are on the outside of the grid, and anyone who knows Bayford, that isn’t good. We lost a few places at the start after being pushed wide and ended the first race in 11th.
The pre final was a disaster, lots of contact in the race badly damaging my kart and completely destroying a wheel, so I had to retire after 7 laps. I was classified 16th.
The kart was repaired and we thought ready for the final but we didn’t realise the rear axel was bent, this became very clear on the warm-up lap as the kart was un-drivable. I had to retire from the race before it even started.
Not a brilliant weekend of racing but I guess that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’m looking forward to a reset and try again in March.
