It’s the final round, round 5, of the LIKC Winter Championship.
Saturday practice went to plan, the kart was fast and we had a solid day without any issues enabling us to concentrate on set-up for tomorrows race.
Qualifying went well and we finished the session on the 2nd row of the grid in 3rd position. Heat one had several restarts and there were several stoppages due to a red flag as a couple of drivers were sent to the back of the grid for rule infringements. This elevated me to pole position, however on the fourth time of trying to get the race going and the marshals running us far too slow on the warm-up lap, by the time I got to the start lights my engine was flooded and I had to pull off the circuit and retire from the race…. I was gutted. The race official did apologise and the error wasn’t repeated for the rest of the weekend. This did mean that I had to start from the back of the grid in the Pre-Final.
I made a good start in the pre-final and worked my way up the grid lap by lap. I finished the race in 3rd place which I was delighted with as this means I now start the final, back on the second row of the grid.
The final went well. I was racing hard for the win but couldn’t keep Finley behind me, he was too quick. I did however give him a run for his money. The top three pulled away from the rest of the pack to end the race with quite a margin. Although I wanted the win, I’m happy to come second for the 2nd consecutive race back at Lydd.
It all starts over again in a few days as we head back down to Bayford Meadows to complete their winter season.
