This weekend was the first round of the BMKR Rotax Junior Championship at Bayford Meadows.
Bayford is a new track for me. I’ve tested there once and never raced there so this weekend was a very steep learning curve. The Junior category is very competitive and the racing is full on and very hard.
Saturday was a test day with six 15min sessions to practice and try to get up to speed, amongst everyone else in my category. The sun is out and it’s been a dry weekend, which I think is a first for me.
I qualified 14th which wasn’t what I wanted. Finished race one in 11th and race two also in 11th although was up in 7th at one point. The final was going in the same way with the aim for a 11th place finish but my tyres got to hot and the last 3 or 4 laps I lost pace and as a result a couple of positions.
It’s been a fun and frustrating weekend but my lap times in each session got quicker and I was mid-pack so I’m trying not to be too disappointed.
I’m testing there in a few weeks and have a lot of different things to try and looking forward to round 2 in a months time.
