Only a month after my first race in an owner kart, it was time to do it all over again as it’s round three of the Lydd’s IKR winter championship. The race weekend was a two day event with testing on Saturday and qualifying and races on Sunday.
Saturday was very wet and windy. After several hours of running we called it a day a couple of hours before the practice event was due to finish because the conditions were so bad we were just running for the sake of it and that doesn’t make any sense from a safely point of view, nor does it do any good just wasting fuel and tyres.
I qualified 6th. Heat 1 didn’t quite go to plan as the bracket holding my rear bumper snapped which left my rear bumper hanging off so I was shown the technical flag and had to retire from the race. This put me on the back foot so started heat two last and finished 6th. Also finished the final 6th.
I scored 91 points this weekend. I’m currently 3rd in the championship with 161 points out of 11 competitors.
The kart passed all scrutineering checks throughout the day and my lap times are getting closer to the top two leaders of the championship.
