After a whirlwind 5 weeks from picking up our new kart we have spent several Friday’s testing it and preparing it to meet MSA Junior Rotax Specifications so we can be entered into an IKR Rotax Championship…. and today was the day. The race weekend was a two day event with testing on Saturday and qualifying and races on Sunday.
Saturday was dry so we tested all day on slicks, setting faster and faster lap times while testing out different tyre pressures and fuel levels, however today was very wet and windy so this morning we had to change the whole kart set-up to a wet set-up before first practice.
I qualified 3rd and finished Heats 1 & 2 in 3rd. I started the final in 3rd and finished 4th after being tapped wide on the closing laps. I was classified 3rd after scrutineering because the kart that hit me received a +5 Second time penalty for an Incorrectly positioned Front Fairing (nose Cone Dropped).
The kart passed all scrutineering checks throughout the day and I’m really please with how my first owner kart race went…. Cannot wait for the next one.
