This weekend marks our 4th back to back weekends of racing before we take a short summer break. We are guest attending Lydd’s IKR championship for round 4.
We haven’t raced at Lydd for almost a year and was great to be back at the circuit. As always it’s looking great and we are looking forward to a race weekend with no pressure as we are not competing in their championship and this is a one-off race for us.
Saturday testing went well, we were the fastest out there all day. The weather conditions were good, it was warm and dry with heavy cross winds.
Sunday start off wet. It had rained all night so the track was slippery and cold. We went out for practice on wets and was a second a lap quicker than anyone else. We then headed out for qualifying, also in the wet and put it on pole position by a comfortable margin.
For race one the track was drying but hit and miss if it would be a wet or dry set-up. We stuck with wet and that turned out to be a mistake. Throughout the race the track got dryer and dryer and by the end of it we lost out to the runners on slicks, finishing the race in 4th.
For the pre-final we were determined to get back to the front of the grid and on the first corner Jacob was spun-out and went to the back of the field. The track is dry and we are now on the correct set-up for the conditions so he re-joined the track and went about catching the pack. He took place after place setting faster and faster lap times until he was up to 2nd position but with a 4 second gap to first with only a handful of laps left. Jacob kept pushing and pushing, closed the gap and took the lead with two laps of the race left. He crossed the finish line in 1st position, two seconds ahead of 2nd place, which was an amazing drive from the back of the grid. Setting fastest lap of the race.
We started the final in pole position, took the lead into the first corner and never looked back. Jacob pulled out a gap each lap taking the win with another fastest lap.
We scored a total of 96 points out of 100. Got pole position and three fastest laps. It was great running all weekend, especially after almost a year away from the circuit.
