The NKC has finished for 2024 so it all prep now for 2025. Our new kart is built and running well so over winter we are competing in the LIKC Winter 2024/25 championship to keep race ready for 2025.
It’s been a long time since we raced at Lydd so we are looking forward to being back where it all began.
Saturday was spent setting up the kart, as we are in seniors we have to meet a different weight restriction so we spent the day doing race length runs with different amounts of fuel and different weight ballast until we were regulation compliant.
Sunday consisted of a warm up, qualifying, two heat races and a grand final.
Qualifying wen’t well, we put our kart on the front role in pole position with fastest lap of the session.
Heat 1, kart number 11 jumped the start and got ahead of the rest of the field way before the start line. We thought the race would be re-started but it wasn’t so we put our head down and started breaking down the lead. We then got past and pulled out a gap in the remaining laps of the race. We won the race and got fastest lap.
Heat 2, perfect start into the first corner keeping the lead and then gapped second place by a tenth of a second per lap eventually pulling out a gap. Crossed the line in first place taking the win and another fastest lap.
Grand final, started in pole, keep the head into the first corner and pulled away quite quickly. The finals are longer so tyre pressures would be key, on the last three laps of the race our tyres started to over heat and 2nd and 3rd place drivers were closing back up to us. We lost a bit of time lapping a back marker which didn’t help but managed to not give them the opportunity to go for an over take, so we took the win, making it a clean sweep this weekend.
Pole position, 3 fastest laps and 3 race wins in our first senior race was an excellent achievement. The lap times between the top three were extremely close so the season is going to be a very tight championship
