It’s the third round of the LIKC 2024/25 winter championship. The conditions are very wet, very cold and very windy…. a typical race weekend on the south coast.
Race day as always consisted of a warm up, qualifying, two heat races and a grand final. The track is very wet and flooded in places, the temperature is cold and there are 40 mph winds.
Warm-up. We went out on our previous race weekend’s wet tyres and was easily fastest, so a good start to the day as we head into qualifying.
Qualifying. Brand new wet tyres and still a very wet track. For some reason we had lost our speed and couldn’t qualify any higher than 4th which is very strange considering how quick we were in warm-up.
Heat 1. Made a good start until the the kart in-front of me spun, I managed to avoid an accident but lost alot of places and it knocked my front bumper so knew I was going to have a penalty at the end of the race for a dropped nose. Drove hard and made it up to 3rd which was a good result considering but the speed was still not there and with my penalty was dropped down to 6th place.
Heat 2. Perfect start into the first corner holding my position, then started to make up places. In this heat we went back to our old set of wet tyres and they were much better and so much faster. We picked off places lap by lap and finished the race in 2nd position…. and then we received another penalty for leaving our tram lines in the start so was demoted to 3rd.
Grand final. Started on the second row in 3rd position. Made a good start and soon made it up to second where I drove hard to catch up to first place. With the race length shortened due to the bad weather there wasn’t enough time to get into first. I did however finish very close in 2nd and got fastest lap of the race so that was as positive end to the weekend.
On the podium again and have maintained my lead in the championship so not all bad.
