This weekend was round three of the LIKC Summer Championship at Lydd.
The weather was very hot and humid. We arrived Saturday afternoon to have a couple of sessions in practice to set-up the kart ready for Sundays racing. Normally we are trying to find more grip but with the weather conditions as they were our kart had too much grip which was slowing us down. We ended up running in three sessions before time run out. Overnight we checked back on previous data to try to get the best kart set-up we could and early Sunday morning made the adjustments we thought would be best for the conditions.
In practice we only went out to make sure everything was working correctly and to scrub in our new tyres.
In qualifying, Jacob put the kart on pole position. To top it off it also turned out to be a new track record.
Race one we made a good start, held our line and came out of the first corner in first place, through the horseshoe, at the back of the circuit, kart 78 (Alfy) capitalised on Jacob running wide and took the lead. Jacob kept his head and pushed Alfy hard and three laps later re-took the lead to win the race.
The pre-final we started pole and lead from start to finish, set the fastest lap of the race, putting us on pole position for the grand final.
The grand final start was exactly the same, Jacob held his line, made a great start and lead the field into turn one. He lead the whole race to cross the line in first position, giving us our first owner kart win.
You couldn’t have asked for a more perfect weekend. Pole, three wins, fastest lap and set the new lap record at Lydd…. a clean-sweep earning us the maximum points of 100.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors, their support is appreciated and we are proud to be racing with their logos on our kart and race suits.
We have a five day break before heading down to Sittingbourne for round three of the BMKR championship.
