Second round of the Northern leg of the 2024 NKC championship, and round 5 overall is at Three Sisters Circuit in Wigan.
Another new track to learn in our maiden national championship. The weekend consisted of the usual Friday & Saturday practice with a heat on Saturday evening and the remainder of the races and the final on Sunday.
Three Sisters is the fastest circuit on the calendar this year so a good kart setup is essential. Throughout Friday and Saturday we tested everything until we found a good set-up that worked well to gave Jacob the confidence he needs to go head to head. In each of the sessions we were improving lap time.
NKC has random grids so there was no qualifying on Sunday. We headed to the pre-grid for our first race starting in 9th position. The weather was cloudy, dry and cooling as it was the end of the day.
Race one start went well, held our position and pushed hard but ended up making contact and loosing some crucial positions. We ended the race in 11th place.
Race two we were starting at the back of the grid in 24th position. We made an excellent start and by the first corner had made up several places, we raced hard, held our own and kept pushing throughout the race, we finished the race in 16th, making up 8 places.
Race 3 we started in 13th. Again kept out of trouble at the start keeping our position and then raced hard against some very quick drivers. Unfortunately we received a drop nose penalty pushing us down the grid after the race which meant we ended up 16th.
The points earned in the three heats was enough to make the A-Final. It’s now 5 out of 5 which is an amazing achievement in our first year in a national championship. Our starting position was 24th.
A-Final we made a good start on a soaking wet track in heavy rain, holding our position, raced hard constantly making up places, almost one position every lap. There was some very close racing in tricky conditions. We finish the race in 12th position making up 12 positions.
We scored a total of 175 points this weekend and are now 18th in the championship out of 97 drivers.
