It’s the first round of the 2025 IKR championship at Lydd International Kart Circuit and the first time the championship has raced on MOJO tyres. It’s a sunny but windy race weekend with not a cloud in the sky.
Saturday consisted of testing out the new MOJO tyres and finding out how its changed a lap of Lydd. We were fast all day and headed into Sunday confident of being able to be in the top three.
Sunday race day consists of the usual warm up, qualifying, two heat races and a grand final. Sunday mornings scrutineering went as planned with no issues. After drivers briefing we headed out to the pre-grid for warm up and qualifying.
QUALIFYING – Wen’t well with a front row start in second position. The battle was fought hard down to the chequered flag with only thousandths of a second separating us from pole position.
HEAT ONE – Lost out in the first corner dropping to 3rd place, pushed hard and after accidentally making contact with the second place driver made it up to second and pulled away to catch the leader. As a result of the contact we received a penalty dropping me back to third at the end of the race. We did however get fastest lap of the race.
PRE FINAL – Made a better start into the first corner making up a place to get us into second. Fought hard throughout the whole race and no matter what we tried to take the lead Joe defended brilliantly and we couldn’t get past. We finished the race in second place, again with fastest lap of the race.
GRAND FINAL – Started on the front row in second, had a good start and was right on the bumper of 1st place Joe from the get go. We pushed and pushed and tried everything we could do to get past. Between us we were trading fastest lap after fastest lap. On the second from last lap we made a clean brilliant move to get past, the move stuck and we were in the lead with a lap to go. Unfortunately on the last lap Joe did the same move on us and no matter what there was no way of stopping it and with three corners to go we lost the lead. We finished the race on the podium in second place.
It was a strong start to the championship and a great first round using MOJO tyres as Lydd is a high speed circuit and the tyres made it even faster.
We now have a few weekends off before heading south for the first round of the 2025 NKC Championship.
