JHR make a guest appearance at Lydd as we join them for their final round of the winter championship.
We are using this final round of their championship as a test session for our 2024 campaign. It’s been six months since we last raced here so we were looking forward to getting out on track.
Saturday testing was very wet and windy. The conditions for Sundays race are due to be dry so as much as we were working hard on our wet set-up we knew that at the end of the day we will be setting up the kart for a dry Sunday.
For race day most people were on new tyres, we decided to run on used tyres as championship position wasn’t at stake. Qualifying went well and we line up on the front row in 2nd position.
Race one we made a great start slotting into first position by the end of the first corner. I held that position throughout the race until the final 2 laps when my tyres started to over-heat and I started loosing lap-time, I ended up finishing the race in 2nd.
Race two, was much of the same. We made some set-up changes to give us the best shot possible at the win and although we were trading fastest laps with the leader there was no way we could get past and into the lead, we finished that race in 2nd.
In the grand final made a good start, and again were trading fastest laps between us and the race leader but again couldn’t find that extra tenth to get past…. Now we wished we went with new tyres. We finished the final on the podium in 2nd.
It was a positive day, great pace and great to be back at Lydd.
